Gas Goes Above $2" and how upsetting it was back then? We,
as smart consumers know that whenever the price of gas increases by a nickel it takes
over $5 billion out of the US consumers' pockets.
The Keystone XL Pipeline has been waiting for approval for more than 1600 days. Rational people recognize this as a "No Brainer" and it has passed several environmental impact studies. It passed the Congress and more recently the US Senate (3/22/2013) with bi-partisan support (17 Democratic votes). It makes great sense because we wouldn't have to support OPEC, foreign economies and pay ever increasing prices for the oil and the considerable transportation costs to get it here.
More importantly, we have a consumer driven economy here in the US, so the 25,000 construction jobs to build it and the 6000 longer term jobs created by the pipeline would contribute mightily to economic growth. If only 6,000 are created at an average of $40K per year in salary we can expect to have $180 million boost to the economy (net). Spending from that would help to produce another $90 million in consumer spending.
Better yet, all the Canadian oil flowing into the US refineries would cost significantly less. Thus, every 5 cent drop in gas prices would create $5 billion in additional consumer spending that would be working for us instead of against us. Remember, as recently as 2004 gas prices were $2 per gallon in the US. That price increase from $2 to $3.85 currently removed $185 billion from consumers pockets annually since then (37 nickel increases to $3.85/gallon).
Fortunately, the Keystone XL Pipeline will reverse all that and allow us to by pass OPEC. Even better it will create many jobs in the process and those jobs will create more jobs through consumer spending. This isn't rocket science people, it is simple math and economics 101, as evidenced by passing the Congress and the Senate with bipartisan support.
We the People need to tell our leadership in Washington to pass the Keystone XL Pipeline and focus more on economic growth. We the people need to tell our leaders that the working class still needs some help. We the people need to tell our leaders that the excessively-long wait for Federal Aid for the 2012 Hurricane victims in NY and NJ was inexcusable. Finally, We the People need to inform our leadership to control spending, balance the budget and dispose of the billions in expensive, vacant government owned properties that cost the tax payers countless billions each year.
The politicians know about this, they have seen the massive layoffs and outsourcing since 2007, the foreclosures, the record bankruptcy filings and ugly unemployment numbers (17% is the real number in RI by the way). Still, the leadership in Washington, DC has hoisted more tax increases on us during a depression instead of controlling spending.
The ObamaCare Law will require even more tax increases due to the uncapped spending it promotes (newsflash Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are still unfunded). Write to our leadership in Washington DC and tell them we are sick and tired of the waste, fraud and abuse. Dear Barack and Michelle,
Please immediately take action to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline! The Congress did, the Senate did and frankly we need the affordable gas, diesel fuel and heating oil. Most importantly we need the jobs and economic stimulus from lower energy prices nationwide. Further delays on approving the Keystone XL Pipeline are unacceptable to us (and we vote).
We the people have had enough of the complacency, uncontrolled spending, excessive taxation and unchecked growth of big government. What happened to common sense, a government that serves and zero-based budgeting in Washington DC? "We are not your slaves, you work for us."
Don't you want to be remembered as an American Hero for reviving the economy like Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan did?
Today the problem we all face is big government complacency, wanton spending of our tax dollars, diminished freedoms, rampant corruption and the growth of socialism. Please approve the Keystone XL Pipeline and all the jobs, abundant energy and energy security that it will create. The economic stimulus from reduced energy prices would be terrific for us all.
