Tips are ESSENTIAL for Uber drivers. Consider for a moment that their pay was slashed in big time in January, they pay for gas, wear and tear, lots of maintenance due to excess mileage, commercial liability insurance, taxes, tolls and then they must buy a new vehicle far more often than you. As 1099 contractors they also receive zero benefits and are taxed at a higher rate. Without help from an employer Medical Insurance will be a huge expense for them too. In addition to that, they are good listeners, often give great advice on restaurants, nightclubs and shopping. Plus, they normally know the fastest way to get to the airport/your destination in spite of the usual heavy traffic. The Uber cashless concept was just a startup idea/marketing hook, but it isn't practical at all since the big pay rate cut and frankly, these drivers are struggling financially. The only decent thing to do is Tip and Tip generously. If you don't you will soon go back to waiting for expensive Taxi Drivers that take a 1/2 hour to show up... Sometimes.
Uber drivers are far worse off than Restaurant Food Servers who are receiving benefits and a guaranteed minimum wage with overtime. Uber Drivers incur all the significant expenses mentioned earlier and even worse, because of Uber and the competition's recruiting promotions that tout significant pay, in many cities there is a huge over-supply of freelance drivers for hire. That results in waiting hours in between fares, which equals pathetically low pay. Now everyone knows a 15%-20% tip for servers is a requirement. Now if purchasing, owning, fueling and maintaining a nice vehicle were cheap, you wouldn't need an Uber Driver in the first place, right? I'm glad I could enlighten you.
After all, watching your Uber Driver drive slowly past you laughing when you really needed to get to the airport or work on time won't be fun. TIPS = To Insure Proper Service! People are not commodities, so be kind to your fellow humans and Uber Drivers! 8v)
Furthermore, buy American made products and services whenever humanly possible. Every job you save is a family saved from financial ruin. Insist on real human customer service agents and support the companies that employ them here in the USA (example Discover Card). Avoid the terrible self-service checkout stations at the supermarket and insist on checking out with a real human cashier every time. Avoid the automated teller machines (ATMs) at the bank or credit union like the plague and insist on real customer service in the bank or via the drive up window. Ever heard of Credit Card skimmers that criminals install on ATMs and gas station credit card machines outdoors? Well they sell your CC info to criminals in foreign countries on the Dark Net (the Internet for Criminals) and before you know it your account is maxed out.
When you insist on buying local, support your local Farmer's Market and help to create jobs right here in America you are doing a world of good. Trust me as a Certified Professional Resume Writer, I hear from unemployed/underemployed professionals because they hire me every day. I know the real unemployment rate for our nation is actually over 11% and the whole economy is propped up with the Fed's high-capacity money printing machines and almost zero interest rates. However, the Stock Market will turn back down soon (it's way overdue) and the Federal deficit will soon reach the point where our grand children's grand children are taxed 95% of their income.
Support American companies that produce products in America and employ your fellow Americans. Sure it takes a little effort/research sometimes, but when America prospers we all prosper. Furthermore, what many shortsighted people fail to realize is, once your US dollars leave the country they seldom if ever come back. However, when you spend here, every dollar continues to circulate over and over helping countless professionals and their families. It's a tragedy that our current leadership in Washington DC is so pathetically weak on the economy, runaway government spending, national deficit and employment, but together we can all make America Great Again. I'm doing my part with HowToFindWorkNow.org and my career as a Certified Professional Resume Writer, Executive Resume Writer and Job Search Coach in Dallas TX. How about you?
Buying American is one of the best things you can do to help other Americans prosper. My new Jeep for example is just incredible in so many ways, yet it didn't get much press initially. Now, Jeep has won all sorts of awards and great reviews. They are truly better than ever before. Whenever your are shopping/buying a new vehicle look for the country of origin sticker that tells you how much of the vehicle's parts were made in the U.S.A. Here's mine as an example below. Look on the lower right of sticker (visible on driver's door edge when opened).
