Yes, there really is one choice that determines your success or failure in life. For some unknown reason, some folks never think about this and drift through life undecided. Unlike college or graduate school, in life you do not ever have to declare a major. Nevertheless, having goals and a mission/a direction in life is a major help. This is exactly why children often idolize their parents and heroes from sports, school or their community. They learn by modeling others. However, this is even more important than choosing an idol. Ultimately, the definitive choice that determines one's success or failure in life is whether you decide to be a victim or a victor.
As we get older and more experienced, we learn that luck does not always go our way at times. Sometimes that luck also comes in streaks, so we should to look to our faith in God and commit to trusting in him. This is commonly referred to as being able to "let go and let God." All Christians, Catholics, Jews etc. need to make the choice of whether to live life as a victim or a victor. Victims are often paralyzed by fear, slowed by being timid and tend to give up on goals much faster. An associate of mine joined me for a business lunch at a popular restaurant recently. The waitress showed up with a cheery smile and received a five-minute long summary of all the bad things that happened to my colleague since birth.
My jaw dropped in amazement and I had to distract the victim/waitress to order lunch from the menu and save her. Who knows how long this could have gone on? I explained to him as a person of faith, that God did not create you to be a weak worm of the dust. He made you his highest creation on purpose. Clearly, we can choose to live life as a victor anytime. Victors focus on the good in life and make things happen by being constructive and choosing a career where they help others. Victors fall seven times and stand up eight. Winners produce and producers win. Focus on it.
Anthony Robbins taught me to "Live my life as if I could not fail…" when I was younger and shortly after I bought my own home and my first investment property in the same month. Thanks to his great advice, I also went from good to great in my work. Within a reasonable time, I had many more clients than I could handle because of the great results my high-quality work generated. Money does flow into my life easily and effortlessly because as a victor, I made sure that my career would focus on providing significant and lasting benefits to others.
If I can do this with my limitations and a healthy helping of God's grace anyone can. Believe me, action is the only antidote to despair. That solution starts with programming your mind to think like a victor instead of a victim. That is easy of course, just ask questions of yourself by writing them down on paper and posting them where you will read them often so your powerful subconscious mind will work on them and deliver a solution for you.
What empowering thoughts and activity can I focus on instead of having a pity party?
How can I invest in my future success to make things happen?
What bad habits and time-wasting activities will I delete from my daily routine to improve my productivity?
What three small steps can I take that will equal one big step towards my goals?
If change happens at the speed of thought, what is stopping me?
How can I sidestep, by pass, climb over or demolish that obstacle, so it is only a speed bump?
What breakthrough actions can I take to lift myself up and advance my career/earnings?
How can I distinguish myself from other well-qualified candidates and earn more interviews?
Go ahead reach for the stars. What's stopping you? NOTHING that's what! Do the thing you fear and the fear will disappear. I promise. After all, if God is for us, who can be against us?

Job Search 501: Top 10 Lessons Learned from the 2016 Presidential Campaigns and Election
Age Discrimination is Real, but dying your hair, dressing for success, maintaining your fitness, learning to use business software and being enthusiastic are great ways to thrive despite rampant age discrimination.
David can beat Goliath with God’s Help – Especially when you have a winning unique selling proposition (USP) and you can hammer that message home. Donald Trump did so and won the highest office in the land as a complete outsider vs. career Politicians with far bigger advertising/campaign budgets. Not only did he defeat the all Republican candidates for President, he also beat Hilary Rodham Clinton who had the advantage of being a former First Lady, many long-term political allies, financial backing from George Soros and she had President Bill Clinton campaigning for her too. Clearly, he was divinely guided.
Integrity Matters – Most people are smart enough to judge you by your actions and behavior vs. labels competitors/others brand you with. The information that WikiLeaks disclosed and the active FBI investigations were devastating to the former First Lady. Likewise, the broadcast of vulgar locker room talk that disparaged women hurt the Trump campaign, dented his election results and caused Billy Bush to be fired from his job with NBC.
Announce Your Plans and Keep Your Promises – One candidate promised a significant tax increase and vowed to continue the failed ObamaCare program that is bleeding tax payers dry (even though the three foundational promises it was passed with were unfulfilled). The winner had seven key strategies to stimulate the economy, create jobs and make America great again. Clearly, one candidates’ plan was much more attractive and sensible to the working class/middle-class Americans.
Communicate Your Message Clearly, so it is not Misunderstood or Misinterpreted – Communicate it directly to your audience, tailor your message to them and put it in writing so voters can re-visit it later. Both candidates detailed their strategic plans in countless speeches and on their websites. Job hunters can announce their plans for the record on their Linkedin profiles. All the candidates hired professional writers and you would be wise to follow their example.
Bring Your Message to Your Audience Wherever They Are – Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, YouTube, Talk Radio, TV, Internet, Personal Networking etc. Reaching your target audience is essential and again put your message in writing so it can be re-visited anytime they want.
Practice to Improve Your Interview Skills, Polish Them and Know Your Audience’s (target market) Hot Buttons – Donald Trump knows what motivates middle class Americans because his listened to them complain about corrupt politicians that didn’t keep their promises for decades. However, in his first two debate performances, he didn’t present himself as well as he could have.
Sacrifice is Admirable – While neither candidate would be mistaken for Mother Teresa, it is widely known that Donald Trump was giving up the extravagant lifestyle of a Billionaire Businessman and reality TV Star to serve as President of the United States of America.
Your Financial Records/Tax Returns/Credit History Could Come Back to Haunt You, so keep your financial promises. One major NY newspaper made key info from one candidates tax returns public and it is common for Politicians to release their tax returns to prove that they have paid their taxes. Likewise, many employers will review your credit history, Google Search Results and Public Court Records as part of a pre-employment background check if you are working with cash/sensitive info, going to make over $50K/year or viewed as a key employee. You will be judged on your ability to keep your financial promises. Passing a drug test and criminal background test are typically mandatory if you are offered a job.
Fact Checkers Will be Taking Notes – Do your research, stick to the facts or at least make conservative guestimates if you cannot remember the facts on older results. It was sad to see the fact checkers point out that much of what was said wasn’t factually accurate. If you are not sure of something, it’s a good idea to give a conservative guestimate or say that you can check into it and return with an answer in 24 hours. Exaggeration is a major turn off for employers and they are highly motivated to hire only the best candidates (top 5%).
Your Online Reputation Matters – Most of the presidential candidates had plenty of positive and negative info in Google Search results, YouTube Search Results and Press. As a job hunter who earns $50K annually, you do not have that luxury. Check the Google Search results on your name at the start of your job hunt and stay on your best behavior to keep your good reputation intact.
Sound Strategy and Excellent Execution is Essential – Work your plan and plan your work. Job hunters can no longer just wing it because there is a massive oversupply of talent today. Back in 2003, we had 7 well qualified candidates for each job vacancy nationwide, now it’s 2017 and we have an average of 17 well qualified candidates for each vacancy. It’s not unusual for employers to receive 5,000 résumé submissions when they advertise a single job posting that pays over $50K/year.
Seek out professional help if you do not have enough skill/experience to perform well in any aspect of the job search – Donald Trump had tremendous help from Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Pence and many others. Résumé, Cover Letter and Linkedin profile writing, interviewing, job search skills, negotiating your salary or navigating a career change. Try to hire expert Résumé Writers/Job Search Coaches vs. part-time hacks though because results matter and you get what you pay for. Every month that you are out of work costs you at least $3,000 to $8,000 in lost salary and savings. So, forget about those pathetic online résumé builders that produce weak typed work histories. I have never had so many new clients requesting job search coaching help after more than 12 fruitless months in a job search.
You will be judged by the company you keep and how you treat others. The voters had about six months to make their observations and they picked the candidate who would serve them best. A good part of that judgment included each candidates’ family and entourage.
You Must Conform to Employers’ Demands! If you need to learn to speak Spanish, use Microsoft Project or speak in public to large audiences. Start learning today, if you will not meet an employer’s requirements others will and it’s a winner take all competition.
The Candidate with the Best Marketing Always Wins. You will never have another chance to make a great first impression. Quality matters not quantity because the vast majority of employers insist on hiring only the top 5% of candidates because they want to earn a promotion, own company stock or have a big quarterly, annual and/or P&L bonus at stake. They always want to maximize the performance, efficiency and productivity of their employees.

America Is Prospering Again, Bank On It To Continue...
Manufacturing here in the US is making a comeback due to the extremely high production of the American workforce, the 3D printer and the difficulty/complexity of manufacturing in abroad (the instructions are typically lost in translation multiple times resulting in increased costs). I have noticed that even Apple Inc. is executing plans to manufacture here in America now (finally). Few if any managers and executives want to leave the manufacturing field. I normally ask them what they think their employer's prospects are for more hiring vs. layoffs going forward. The positive answers I received frequently mentioned American innovation.
Another, huge sector of the economy, real estate and home building is already one year into a slow steady comeback. Large cities with abandoned, foreclosed homes are either demolishing them or selling them for a song to be renovated. In many prosperous areas, real estate agents report a shortage of homes for sale on the market. Housing is such a huge part of the American economy that no recovery is genuine until housing participates. The education, health care and pharmaceutical/biomedical fields are still experiencing steady growth. As the government continues to print more money and the dollar continues to weaken further the commodities and agricultural sectors will continue to strengthen as well.
The stock markets are doing well with the Dow, Nasdaq, S&P and Russell 2000 all near multi-year highs. Corporate profits have had yet another record high year, real estate prices are still trending up and our IRAs/401Ks have recovered nicely. This "wealth recovery" is so vital to continued consumer confidence because our economy is 85% consumer driven. All this good news is remarkable considering that businesses and consumers everywhere have seen continued double-digit increases in health care insurance costs over the last ten years. Lately, they have doubled or tripled due to ObamaCare (massive complexity, administration and compliance costs cripple businesses). Even the disconcerting, unfettered growth of the federal government has a bright side... JOB CREATION.
Even cyclical industries like the automotive industry and banking industry are doing well. The US auto industry's sales (we will reach $16 billion for 2013) have just now surpassed the pre-recession highs. Unfortunately, the Chevy Volt didn't turn out to be a legendary success story as promised. However, Tesla's Model S just earned Motor Trend's "Car of the Year Award" for 2013. Tesla has definitely become another legendary American success story like Boeing, Microsoft, Ford, Apple, Google, Facebook etc. Meanwhile, the technology/IT/software industry continues to grow and distribute products and services worldwide. Our entertainment industry (TV, Film, Sports, Theater, Music, Gaming etc.) is still the most successful in the world.
The Energy Industry is booming like never before thanks to the advancement of environmentally sound fracking techniques, newly-discovered US reserves in the ground and the booming oil and gas industry in general. At $110 per barrel, many of the oil wells that were previously capped are producing again in the US. Reliable sources tell us that America now has more than enough oil & gas resources to be energy independent. (However, we still want to save some of our supplies for the future.) Better yet, the US has quietly become the preferred oil refinery resource abroad. The energy industry is generating tens of billions of dollars a month in revenue now. The trickle down effect from all this wealth means more jobs and prosperity in the US for decades to come.
Finally, according to the Institute for Supply Management's recent press release the service industry is growing at a record pace. This confirms the economy is in expansion. So, while there are still some struggling industries out there at the moment (construction and retail). America will be full steam ahead in 2014 thanks to this economic recovery and trickle down economics. Please, do your part to keep Americans employed by making sure your family buys American! The job you save may be your own...
